There are many kinds of underground mineral resources in China, and the geomorphic geological structure of many metal deposits and rare metal deposits are relatively complex in terms of ore body morphology and grade changes. In order to obtain reserves above grade C, it is necessary to use a combination of surface drilling and underground tunnel drilling to reach them. Underground tunnel drilling refers to the drilling work of drilling holes at different angles in narrow underground tunnels with special drilling rigs. Compared with surface drilling, tunnel drilling is mostly a full range of small-diameter shallow holes. We know that surface drilling due to the topography of the ore body morphology and other conditions, often through a very thick cover layer to control the ore body. The use of tunnel excavation to control the ore body is slow and costly. Therefore, tunnel drilling has been paid more and more attention. With the development of drilling machinery design and manufacturing, some special new full hydraulic tunnels have come out one after another. They have the characteristics of small size, light weight, high degree of automation, no tower lifting and long stroke feeding, etc. They overcome the shortcomings of large caverns required to be excavated in the past when moving surface drilling rigs to tunnels for construction, large occupied sites, heavy and complicated operations, etc.
In recent years, tunnel drilling has developed rapidly and has been widely used in mine development services and other engineering fields.(1) In the survey and exploration of mineral deposits, especially in the survey and exploration of mineral deposits such as non-ferrous metals and rare metals, tunnel drilling is used to recover mineral deposits, encrypted exploration and geological structure delineation of ore bodies, sampling and verification, etc.
(2) In mine development, tunnel drilling technology is commonly used to drill underground observation holes, ventilation holes, drainage holes, gas discharge holes, grouting holes, blasting holes, anchoring holes, leading holes of tunnels, etc.
(3) In other fields of geotechnical engineering construction, the equipment and technology of tunnel drilling can be used for the slope reinforcement of dam foundation, the treatment of geological disasters, the support of deep foundation pit, and the construction of underground engineering in industrial, commercial, transportation, military and other aspects.
