Due to the role of the bending joint, the trajectory of the directional drilling is no longer the slightly parabolic linear trajectory formed by the traditional drilling rig, but becomes a spatial curve in the direction of the bending joint.

The matching measurement system is the key component to ensure that the deep hole directional drilling is carried out according to the predetermined trajectory. The main measurement parameters of the measurement system in the hole are azimuth angle, inclination angle and bending joint direction. According to the measured parameters in the hole, the coordinates of each measurement point can be calculated by trigonometric function, and the projection map of the space curve on the horizontal and vertical planes can be depicted and compared with the designed trajectory, according to the deviation, even if the direction of the bent joint is adjusted, as well as the directional drilling trajectory to meet the design requirements.
