The phenomenon of mining pick dropping alloy head is divided into three stages: early, middle and late stage, and the damage caused by dropping alloy head in different stages is different. The damage caused by the early drop of the alloy head is relatively large. In a short period of time, the carbide cutter head will fall from the pick body, causing the pick to be scrapped in advance.

The main reasons for the loss of alloy heads in the early or middle stages of the cutting tooth are poor weld quality, low strength, and lax control of the tooth body processing size, resulting in too large or too small weld gap, resulting in difficulty in solder flow, and ultimately causing the alloy head to "squeeze to death" or "lack of welding". For this reason, the coal industry standard MT246-1996 "cutting teeth for coal mines" issued by our country puts forward requirements for the welding seam of the cutting teeth, requiring the shear strength of the brazing welding seam ≥ 180MPa, the shear strength of the brazing welding seam of the high-quality cutting teeth ≥ 230MPa, and the filling degree of the solder in the welding seam is not less than 80%.

The late drop of alloy head is due to the excessive wear of the front end of the tooth body, which makes the hard alloy cutter head too prominent and reduces the weld area, resulting in insufficient weld strength and the pick drop of alloy head. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of alloy head falling off in the later stage of the pick, in addition to improving the brazing quality and weld strength, it is more important to improve the wear resistance of the front end of the pick body.
